- ANGKOR TEMPLE HIGHLIGHTS
Early morning,
visit the picturesque Ta Prohm that
had nearly disappeared into the jungle and
remains overgrown, an oddly haunting and
exotic scene. The magnificent roots of a
tree, pushing between the huge stone blocks
of the temple in a sort of embrace, evoke
feelings that you may remember forever.
And
continue to visit
the
intricately carved Khmer ruins at Angkor
Wat - one of the world’s most impressive
ruins. The temple still owns fine Apsara
carvings in Angkorian era art.
And
continue exploring the mysterious Royal city
Angkor Thom. City & Bayon Its 54-tower
temple is an awesome sight. At first glance
it seems a shapeless mass of stone, but
further scrutiny reveals a face, and then
another and another until suddenly you are
engulfed by the silent, heavy, enigmatic and
silent gaze through half-closed eyes,
staring out from a primitive and remote
time. Further, visit to the surroundings of
the complex including the Baphou,
Elephant Terraces, Lipper King Terrace
and Royal Palace Enclosure area and
visit one more ruin in Angkor Area of
Preah Khan temple, built in 12th
century by King Jayavarman VII and it is the
same style to Ta Prom Temple.

- ANGKOR OUTLYING TEMPLES
This morning we visit the ancient Khmer
civilization site of Hariharalaya
which flourished in the late 9th
and earlier 10th centuries. These
are the earliest temples in the Angkor area
and are referred to the Rolous group
(Lo Lei, Preah Koh, and Bakhong
Temples). Lunch with the local family
and then we will continue to
drive to the rural
outskirt 35km from Angkor area to visit the
smallest, but magnificent, Banteay
Srei built in the 10th
Century and dedicated to Shiva. The temple
was the birthplace of Khmer classical style
architecture and the bas-relief work is the
best example of Khmer classical art
remaining. The pink sandstone structure
bears a series of striking and beautiful
sculptures, lintels, pediments and friezes.
Khmers say the temple must have been carved
by women for the details are too fine for
the hands of a man. On the way back to Siem
Reap we will visit the Banteay
Samre Temple adorned with impressive
reliefs depicting scenes of Vishnu as well
as Krishna legends

BENG MELEA TEMPLE AND KAMPONG KHLENG VILLAGE
Located 65km from Siem Reap, it is a
pleasant 1.5 hour drive through the
Cambodian countryside to reach the sprawling
jungle temple of Beng Mealea. Constructed in
a distinctly Angkor Wat style by King
Suyavarman II in the early 12th century,
Beng Mealea preceded and may have served as
a prototype for Angkor Wat. Today the temple
is largely overrun by vegetation and the
stone walls are crumbling which adds to its
charm in a unique way. Accessibility has
improved as elevated walkways have been set
up throughout most of the temple, although
to see all corners does require a sense of
adventure as you will need to climb over
stone blocks or walk through narrow
passageways. Continue with a one hour drive
to the village of Kampong Khleang, one of
the largest settlements on the Tonle Sap
Lake. Living on water is an art the Khmer
people have mastered over the course of
time. Board a local boat and visit a
floating house where a catered lunch is set
up for you. Observe the local customs and
talk with your hosts about the differences
they face living on the water. Continue
after lunch exploring the small island,
which is home to a bustling market, a
pagoda, a school and a health centre before
returning to Siem Reap.(It is advisable to
wear sturdy, walking shoes with a decent
grip)

- KOH KER AND BENG MELEA TEMPLES
Depart for a full day trip to Koh Ker and
Beng Mealea both located in the beautiful
rural hinterlands of Siem Reap. Travel
off-the-beaten track for 2.5 hours before
arriving at Koh Ker, the former capital of
the Khmer Empire between 928 and 944 A.D.
The style of the Koh Ker temple is different
from any other temple in Cambodia and has
more of a resemblance to the ancient
pyramids of Egypt. Partially overgrown by
the forest and inhabited only by birds, this
temple and its surroundings are an
exceptional experience. Enjoy a simple
picnic lunch near the temple and continue to
visit other ancient structures in the
peaceful area. As you head back to Siem
Reap, visit the spectacular ruins of Beng
Mealea, which was constructed by King
Suryavarman II (1113-1150). It preceded and
may have served as a prototype of sorts for
Angkor Wat. Contrary to Angkor, few carvings
or bas-reliefs are evident. Today the temple
is largely overrun by vegetation and the
stone walls are crumbling which adds to its
charm in a unique way. After your visit,
drive 1.5 hours back to your hotel. (Road
conditions to Koh Ker may vary according to
the season and can be bumpy in the wet
season)

Kulen mountain range provides Siem Reap with
water and dominates the skyline of the flat
plains surrounding it. Although the highest

Empire. King Jayavarman II claimed
independence from Java there in 802 A.D.

countryside to Phnom Kulen and start the
rather steep climb up by car. On top of the

pagoda that offers stunning views over the
Angkor area. Visit the eight meter tall
statue of a reclining Buddha and wash your
hands at the Linga statue to purify your
